Protecting Our Greatest Natural Resources

Water isn't just one of our natural resources — it's one of our greatest responsibilities.

What I've Heard

When I talk with people across Warren County, conversations about Kerr Lake and Lake Gaston usually begin with recreation — fishing, boating, family gatherings, and the natural beauty that makes this area so special. But they don't end there.

I've also heard people talk about something much bigger. I've heard concerns about protecting our drinking water, preserving these resources for future generations, and making sure Warren County continues to have a strong voice in decisions that affect one of our greatest assets.

Many people recognize that clean, reliable water will only become more valuable in the years ahead. They want to know we're thinking beyond today's needs and planning wisely for tomorrow. I believe that's one of our responsibilities as county leaders.

My Perspective

Growing up in Warren County, I've always understood that our lakes are more than beautiful places to visit. They are part of who we are.

Like many of you, I've spent time enjoying these waters with family and friends. I've also seen the opportunities they create for recreation, tourism, local businesses, and economic growth.

As Fire Chief, I've worked alongside emergency responders on incidents involving our waterways, giving me another perspective on the importance of planning, cooperation, and responsible management.

I believe caring for these resources is not about choosing between conservation and opportunity. It's about ensuring both can exist together. Good stewardship means leaving something better than we found it.

What This Means for Warren County

Water is one of Warren County's most important natural resources. Kerr Lake is more than a destination for boating and fishing. It provides drinking water for families here in Warren County and serves as a vital water source for neighboring communities as well. That makes protecting this resource about much more than recreation — it's about public health, economic stability, and the long-term future of our region.

As our communities continue to grow, access to clean, reliable water will only become more valuable. I believe Warren County has both an opportunity and a responsibility to be a thoughtful steward of this resource. That means protecting water quality, planning wisely for the future, and ensuring decisions affecting our water resources reflect the long-term interests of the people who call Warren County home.
